Wonder of wonders, our little seven and a half month old is crawling. One day she was rocking back on forth on all fours, the next she was scurrying across the carpet. We are scrambling to get latches on cabinets, and find those baby gates that we had hidden away for later in the summer. Right now she only crawls out of necessity (to get to a favorite toy or person across the room), but we have the feeling that she will soon realize the level of freedom she has just achieved!
And (my goodness, that there could be more), with crawling comes the developing skill of pulling herself up on anything and everything. Right now she will crawl over to a shelf or end table and kneel along side of it--sometimes pulling herself up, to her own surprise, but mostly just kneeling next to it.
The words "baby proof" are now ringing true in our naive parental ears.

Good for Ruthie!! Yes, it's an exciting time ... and there's so much more to come!
And by the way, just so you'll know, there really is no such thing as "baby proof" if she wants it bad enough ...
