It's a funny feeling watching your child grow up. Somehow you relish and despise the same moments all at once.
Last night, Ruth spent the first night in her "big girl" room and in her "big girl" bed. The room is furnished with twin bunk beds, and last night Ruth took the first step in the process: sleeping on a twin mattress on the floor next to the bunks.
We were ready for protests, a late night, and even having to cuddle with her until she drifted off to sleep. Planners that we are, we had thought of every possible problem that might occur, and the solution to fix it.
The one thing we hadn't thought of, was inevitably what happened...she went right to sleep! Doesn't she know how much we needed her to fuss and cry and insist on our presence in the room? Isn't she aware that, at times, our very existence as parents hinges on her need for us? The nerve... really!
In truth, we thank God for His provision in giving Ruth ease and peace through this transition. She is an amazing gift in our lives, even if she does keep growing up ;-)
